This guide will help you to set up and run the XR sims. JoinXR is very flexible and will allow multiple headsets in a simulation, but this guide will focus on a fast setup using a single headset and laptop.

This setup should take a approximately 30 mins. It only needs to be completed once.!


What you will need

  • A JoinXR Account.

  • Headset - HTC Focus (or Quest2 or Hololens2)

  • A Windows Laptop + 🎧 Headphones

A fast internet connection with no firewall is advised. A reliable fallback is to use a strong 4G/5G mobile hotspot.

Note

It is assumed you have familiarised yourself with the use of the HTC Focus3 with the instructions provided by HEE (MARK check these gain with Kyle!!!)


Please complete the following steps in order

1️⃣ On your Laptop’s browser login to your JoinXR account here, using the details provided by HEE.

2️⃣ Create a Dropin (a permanent meeting space for you and your students)

  1. Select "Drop-ins" from the top bar.

  2. Click "Add Drop-in".

  3. Name your Dropin. (i.e. LEEDS XR simulation)

  4. Click "Save Change"

3️⃣ Download and pair the JoinXR Windows Application

  1. In your laptops browser select "Windows"

  2. DownloadJoinXR

  3. The JoinXR application will download , install and run.

  4. Copy and paste the code and “Pair

  5. Close” the JoinXR Windows application for now

Press Start Key and type JoinXR to run next time.

4️⃣ Pair your HTC Focus (or Quest2 or Hololens2) with your JoinXR account

  1. Run JoinXR on your HTC Vive

  2. Select ‘Add new User’ and copy the code

  3. Goto Menu / Devices / Pair New Device

  4. Enter the coder and ‘Pair’

Its a good habit to leave your HTC + Controllers connected and charging when not being used.
