Running a Sim

 

It is vital that you have already practiced and are confident ‘Controlling an Avatar’ before you run a Sim with a student

Please complete the following steps in order

 

Load the sim on your laptop

On your laptop, run the JoinXR application and then:

  1. On the Select User screen, click on your profile

  2. On the Select Meeting screen select the Drop-in you created during the setup

  3. Select “Open” in the top right menu

  4. Open the HEE XR Sims folder

  5. Select the XR Sim you wish to run i.e Stacey Single

  6. Familiarise yourself with the Mouse Controls etc

  7. Setup your Headphones and audio

 

Load the sim on the HTC Focus

 

  1. On the Focus (or Quest2 or Hololens2) run JoinXR

  2. On the Select User screen, click on your profile

  3. On the Select Meeting screen select the Drop-in you created during the setup

  4. Wait for the Sim to download

 

Run the sim!

 

  1. Check that your student has signed the epilepsy and data gathering waivers.

  2. With your student sitting comfortably, give them the headset to put on, with the JoinXR sim already loaded and running.

  3. Give them either the Right Hand or Left Hand controller, as appropriate

  4. If you are in the same room as your student put your headphones on and Mute the application

  5. From your laptop move the camera so that you are looking over the shoulder of their avatar.

  6. When you are ready to start, ask the Student to read the Intro Panels and use the controller to progress.

  7. Press Record in the top right menu (ensure it is set to low or medium quality (in settings) unless you have a powerful laptop with a lot of memory)

  8. In the top left corner of your laptop you can toggle the Control panel to drive the simulation

  9. Remember to stop the recording when you have finished

Debrief

 

  1. Goto Recordings and access the video of the session

  2. Discuss with students
