Stacey Morris has been accepted as an emergency referral from her GP for assessment.
The patient is a 32 year old mother of two with a four week old newborn. She has a history of post partum depression from her first child.
The student must conduct an initial mental health examination on Stacey.

To understand and reflect on the lived experience of assessing the mental health of a patient with perinatal mental health problems.
To identify signs and symptoms of perinatal mental illhealth in acute assessment presentation.
To apply the skills, knowledge and abilities relevant to one’s own profession in the assessment of mental health.
To have appropriate reflected and evaluated performance of the task in a supported reflection.

Briefing | Before starting the XR simulation, the learner must consent to taking part via this online form. The learner will then be given access to the Medical History for the patient, before starting the sim, but will also be able to access it within the sim | Classroom 5 mins |
Mental Health Examination of Stacey | The student will meet with Stacey and her baby in a private consultation room where the student can speak with Stacey | XR Sim Private Consultation Room 10mins |
Debrief | The student, instructor (and possibly other students) will watch a recording of the simulation and discuss in detail the student’s technique and clinical reasoning | Classroom 15 mins |
